Poverty; The World’s Threat That Will Be Solved By 2030

For the past 15 years under the umbrella of the millennium goals the world had worked hard to try and reduce poverty. At the end approximately one billion people have been lifted out of extreme poverty, falling from 1.9 billion people in 1990 to 836 million in 2015 (the millennium goals report 2015).

Despite the succession of reducing poverty globally, we still have a big obligation, millions of people are still being hunted with extreme poverty, and it has reached to a point where humanity is being suspended for a daily bread. Poverty sounds creepy but trust me it comes with a package very disastrous.

With poverty I barely name this world as a horrible place, since it’s obvious that people love being human but what is human for, with no hope for tomorrow, homeless, nothing to feed in, young people loitering around in hopeless streets looking for hope not knowing that the streets are also searching for hope from their feet.

I might sound creepy, but how do we expect a poor mind to wake up into a thousand million dollar plan in his mind, while he just woke up in another starving long day, adding up to the destroyed atmosphere where the sun hits directly on our heads, how do we expect productivity from unfertile land.

I may be sounding too pessimistic, concentrating to individuals of who we barely think of them as much- as we care of the nation’s survival, as long as the ocean exists let the dead fish rest in peace, no offense though!

Having questioned my instincts what is a nation without progressive minds, what is a nation free from poverty with approximately 70% of the population living below poverty line, with the imports higher than the exports making the expenditures higher than the earnings.

You and I and everyone else can’t deny that no matter the efforts made, and the succession met through the past 15years global development plan under the first goal of reducing poverty, a lot is still to be done, for instance ownership of land have been improved but yet the possession of productive assets such as mechanized equipment and big livestock is still limited.

Poverty is indeed a tragedy; with poverty we would scarcely make progress towards sustainable development, making this world a better a better place will be a locked up map in our thoughts. For it is due to poverty man losses faith in hard work and the next course opted gives birth to theft gangs, prostitution, and  drug dealings few to mention.

Most of the world’s threats are being associated with poverty as their core courses. Having realized this, the world’s responsible peacemaking organ the UNITED NATIONS in September,2015 launched a 15year global development plan named THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGs) with 17 goals, 169 targets and 230 indicators structured to cover all spheres in the world thus being people, the planet, prosperity, peace and partnership. With SDGs the world aim to achieve all goals in 2030 also by any means to achieve extraordinary goals that are to end all forms of poverty, combat climate change and reduce injustice and inequality without leaving no one behind.

April 7 2015, few month before the introduction of the sustainable development goals, the president of the World Bank group, HE. Jim Yong Kim made a statement on poverty and he stated possible measures in ending poverty. From his speech he insisted on partnership of the wealth institutes, he mentioned some including the Asian infrastructure investment bank and the new development bank established by BRICS countries as potential strong allies in the economic development of poor countries and emerging countries.

“First, agricultural productivity must increase. Second we must build infrastructures that      provide access to energy, irrigation and markets. The third, we must promote greater and freer trade. Fourth, we must invest in health and education of women and children. And fifth, we must implement social safety and provide social insurance including initiatives that protect against the impact of natural disasters and pandemics.”                   -JIM YONG KIM. (2015/APRIL).

Now, me and you my fellow youth and everyone around being men or women what is your stand, remember none of us is to be exempted from this movement for we are all affected in one way or the other for it is in human seeing your brother dying for hunger while you have a whole bag of flour inside, we should all understand that if we won’t act we won’t have a pleasing generation years to come.

I finally call upon everyone being young or old, women or men, for both races and believes, poverty isn’t an individual case it’s a global threat, threat to peace and humanity threat to well being and prosperity. None of us should be left behind this movement is meant for all, our future and our generations. Mind you we will once be held accountable for our silence. Speak up, act and be part of a successful tomorrow.
